The walls, with their nine km, surround Ferrara almost completely, and constitute one of the most impressive defensive systems ever built in Italy. All the significant periods of the Italian military architecture are represented here, set in the middle of a lush green. Studied also by the great Michelangelo as an interesting example of defensive architecture, the red-brick walls witness of the important past of Ferrara and now provide a wide park that extends and integrate the smaller ones located within the City.

Parzialmente costeggiabili in auto seguendo le strade di circonvallazione poste all'interno e all'esterno della cinta.
Il tratto fra la porta Paola e viale Belvedere è quello che ha maggiormente perso le caratteristiche originarie.
Data la lunghezza del percorso e le sue caratteristiche si consiglia l'uso della bicicletta.
Per i disabili è consigliabile l'aiuto di una persona, a causa dei livelli di pendenza in alcuni tratti o del terreno sconnesso dei terrapieni.
