Waterways have always played an important role in communication and trade in the Ferrara territory. Many places still bear names that are a reminder of their origins in relation to water, such as Portomaggiore (main/largest harbour). Located in the middle of a network of waterways, this town's economy is today primarily agricultural with, recently, the development of small artisan firms in various sectors. |
